Resort Attractions

Val Cenis is very much in-touch with its natural side away from the downhill scene and you can go on a number of different snowshoeing excursions, dog sledding at the top of the ski slopes above Lanslebourg, follow a winter hiking route, visit a museum section in the church, tour and taste at a local cheese making workers' co-operative or even take part in frescoe painting workshops!

Biathlon is a great fun activity to try in the French national training facility in neighbouring Bessans, a short bus ride away. Here you can sample the ancient sport of cross country skiing and then shooting at targets, or practice on an indoor range with a laser gun. The trick is not to ski too hard as you come into the range so that your heart slows down enough for you to aim the rifle straight!

Shopping

The two villages each has a small selection of a dozen or so shops, predominantly selling either sportswear or food products.

For locally made crafts and regional souvenirs in Lanslevillard try La Bricole (+33 (0)4 79 05 90 02) which also sells games, traditional toys, natural cosmetics and books, or La Grange Anaralie (Place de l’Eglise; +33 (0)4 79 05 36 50) which has official Savoie made products including paintings on wood, pottery and jewellery. In Lanslebourg, La Pignotte (38 rue du Mont-Cenis ; +33 (0)4 79 05 97 27) has traditional Savoie pottery, wooden souvenirs and mountain linen in its wide range.

There are also banks, post offices, photographic stores and newsagents in both villages and a chemist in Lanslebourg.
