Valmeinier’s three mountain restaurants provide perfectly adequate coverage if you stick to the local slopes, and are supplemented by a wider choice over towards Valloire. You also have the option of heading to the base of the lifts and dining in resort, or back in your apartment for lunch if you wish.
The choices include L’Arméra (+33(0)4 79 59 29 41; ) located at 1750m on the slopes between the two main resort bases in the 1500 sector, Le Panoramic (+33 (0)6 79 87 66 17), the latter, unsurprisingly, providing great views. Both provide cafeteria style self-service and a good selection of snack food and home-cooked mountain favourites for lunch.
Valmeinier 1800 has, as usual, most of the dining choices with most of the 20 or so options available in the resort located there. These are almost all family-friendly and family-run establishments serving local mountain specialities or Italian cuisine. For traditional food L'Estaminet (+33(0)4 79 56 50 12) and Le Yeti (+33(0)4 79 56 63), which offer regional specialities, are good choices. You can also combine your evening meal with a snowshoe hike beforehand if you like fondue.
La Table des Chalet (+33(0)4 79 56 31 68) is a great choice for crepes. There are several pizzerias including the la Pizza Rock (+33 (0)4 79 56 61 58) and Les Lauzes (+33(0)4 79 56 59 15) which has a mixed menu. La Glisse (+33(0)4 79 56 80 53; restaurant-laglisse.fr), located slopeside, also offers the best of both Italian and local food.
In Valmeinier 1500 try Le Brezain Bar (+33(0)6 82 69 74 41) which has traditional French food and local specialities.
Rather a good choice for French foodies, Valmeinier has a dozen grocery outlets spread across its village bases.
In 1800 Aux Délices d'en Haut (+33 (0)4 79 05 85 80) in the Résidence les Hauts de Valmeinier; Aux Delices des Alpes (+33 (0)4 79 56 80 59) at Balcon des Islettes and La Fabric (+33(0)4 79 05 46 60) in the main square are all good bakeries, selling pizza, sandwiches and cakes too.
Le Goût des Montagnes (+33 (0)04 79 05 94 99) and Les Chalets Gourmands (+33 (0)6 34 47 27 88), are both specialists in locally produced mountain food products. There are four small supermarkets too, outlets of Proxi (+33 (0)4 79 56 66 75) in Le Chamois residence and in Ours Blanc Residence (+33 (0)4 79 56 57 28) and a Sherpa (+33 (0)4 79 56 57 21) in Lumieres de Neige residence.
There’s also a Spar which is open from 7.30am to 7.30pm daily, nonstop. This has an on-site bakery, sells regional products, lends out equipment like fondue sets, roasts chicken in the store and offers a delivery service to your accommodation.
In Valmeinier 1500 La Ferme du Mont Thabor (+33 (0)4 79 59 38 84) sells dairy produce and specialises in goats' cheese, and there’s a Sherpa supermarket (+33(0)4 79 59 93 25).
