There are five mountain restaurants above Valloire and of course more in the linked Valmeinier sector. They are all small-medium traditional mountain huts. Château Ripaille (+33 (0)4 79 83 31 34) is well placed in the Crey du Quart area while Les Mérégers (+33 (0)6 11 28 19 83) is on the "Les Selles" piste and has a cosy environment and traditional goodies to eat.
Thimel (+33 (0)4 79 05 36 65) is accessed from the Sétaz gondola and has a cafeteria style interior serving a wide range of filling lunches and lighter snacks. Le Chalet de la Brive (+33 (0)4 79 59 59 39) is one of the bigger establishments accessed from the Crêt de la Brive gondola so a good place to meet non-skiing members of your party if you have them. There’s a sunny area out front, complete with deckchairs for a sunshine fix.
There are 30 restaurants to choose from, the majority family-oriented establishments offering traditional Savoyard food. There are several Italian options however, including the restaurant with the name that describes its menu – Le Pizza (+33 (0)4 79 59 09 14) and Pizzeria Vent d'Italie (+33 (0)4 79 05 91 98; ventditalie.com) which also offers a delivery service.
La Grange de Thelcide (+33 (0)4 79 59 06 62) is one of the best crêperies in town while Bistrot Chez Fred (+33 (0)4 79 59 08 32) is a popular place. Le Relais is a family run with a 90 seater restaurant which has a good reputation for its home produced cuisine.
Valloire has a very good selection of local food shops (a real forte of the resort) including several delicatessens run by the Retornaz brothers (Avenue de la Vallée d'Or; +33 (0)4 79 59 01 79 and at Les Pieds sous la Table (Route des Villards; +33 (0)4 79 83 38 93) as well as Bolliet the Butcher (Rue de la Sétaz; +33 (0)4 79 59 03 45). La Grotte à Fromages (Galerie Eden Val; +33 (0)4 79 59 08 07;la-grotte-a-fromage.fr) is a wonderful cheese specialist shop.
There are six bakers including Le Fournil des Bergers (Rue des Grandes Alpes; +33 (0)4 79 59 00 74; le-fournil-des-bergers.com) which is also an excellent patisserie and chocolatiere.
La Petite Ferme du Col (Rue de la Sétaz; +33 (0)4 79 59 05 67), Le Petit Marché (Rue des Grandes Alpes, +33 (0)6 67 72 53 86), Le Refuge des Gourmets (Avenue de la Vallée d'Or; +33 (0)6 99 54 71 58), L'Edelweiss (Galerie Eden Val; +33 (0)4 79 56 58 37) and Le Marmiton Savoyard (Rue des Grandes Alpes; +33 (0)4 79 59 00 74) all offer regional specialities including cheese, preserves and many other products. Several local farms also sell dairy products direct to visitors either at their premises or at the regular Friday morning market.
There are also three mini-markets including Benjamin Moulin’s general store (+33 (0)4 79 83 28 56); a Petit Casino supermarket (Rue de la Cure; +33 (0)4 79 59 06 28) and an 8 à Huit grocery store and launderette (Avenue de la Vallée d'Or; +33 (0)4 79 59 09 51).
