Val d'Isère Resort Attractions

Val d’Isère is a fun resort with plenty to keep you entertained. Whether you are a non-skier or boarder or if you just fancy something a bit different on a bad weather day, Val d’Isère is sure to keep you occupied.

An unusual opportunity at Val d’Isère is to take a first flight as a passenger on a microlight, seated behind pilot Philippe de Villenoisy (+33 (0)6 07 22 43 97). Tours are organised across the Val d'Isère-Tignes ski area and participants provided with pictures and a video of their experience. The microlight itself rests on skis on the ground in order to ensure a smooth take-off and landing on the snow.

The large sports centre – the Centre Aquasportif (+33 (0)4 79 04 26 01) is an ideal location to keep the whole family entertained. Stay there for the whole day if your legs need a break from the slopes or just pop in after a day on the slopes to relax in the pool or burn off a bit of that famous Savoyard cuisine!

There is a great swimming area with Jacuzzis, steam rooms and saunas as well as water jets and a river rapid for the kids. There are also several sports facilities including indoor football, basketball, tennis, squash courts, golf simulator and a climbing wall.

Val d'Isère On Snow

If you fancy getting out on the snow without strapping on a pair of skis or a board then why not try out glacier walking or snowshoeing (+33 (0)6 13 85 64 77)? A brilliant way to see Val d'Isère are and get a chance to experience either the Grande Motte or Pissaillas glaciers.

Most guiding companies run walks around the area and the local tourist office also runs 3 to 4 adventures per month so check in with them to see what’s on. You are bound to see some crevasses when you are walking on the glaciers which is exciting, however that means it is imperative that you only venture out with a guide!

If a day on your skis or board has not been exhilarating enough for you then get a team together and try some husky racing – you can even be in charge or your own dogs and sled! Or have a go at ice driving to get even more speed up!

The last activity we highly recommend for adrenalin junkies is paragliding – an unrivalled way to take in the spectacular scenery (+33 6 09 46 64 78)

Rest and Relax in Val d'Isère

Most of us would rather something a little less high octane after a big day on the mountain and Val d’Isère has plenty of relaxing activities to offer as well.

Get stuck in to a spot of retail therapy at some the the resort's huge array of shops! The majority of these are inevitably sports and food outlets, however, this is Val d’Isère so there are also several dozen gift and luxury goods retailers that are great to browse around, especially given the pedestrianised centre of the resort in which to do it.

Galerie Jane Griffiths (+33 4 79 07 89 33) is one of three art galleries in resort and there are also three photographic stores and Berraud the jewellers.

You could also try out of the many great spas in Val d’Isère to heal any post piste aches and pains you might have. Check out our Val d’Isère spa guide for more details on our favourite spots to treat ourselves!
