Val d'Isère Restaurants and Dining

Whether you would like a simple crêpe or a gourmet dinner Val d'Isère has something for everybody with its great range of restaurants both on and off the mountain. Here is our guide to a few of the best spots.

Val d'Isère Mountain Restaurants

There are a dozen mountain restaurants to choose from on the Val d'Isère slopes, and even more on the Tignes side.

Le Signal (+33 (0)4 79 06 03 38) located at the top of the Fornet cable car is highly regarded and scores on two levels, literally, with a self-service cafeteria downstairs and table service upstairs.

Le Refuge de Solaise at the top of the Solaise lift is a boutique hotel housing 3 resturants and bars including Gigi, a cosy private dining room, the Bar du Refuge and the Little Refuge - open daily for lunch from 12-3pm.

If you would prefer something a little special then try La Fruitière, it is highly acclaimed and its popularity has snowballed so much in recent years that you’ll need to book a table if you wish to eat between 12.30-2pm. Situated at the top of the La Daille gondola it is also a perfect location to meet non-skiers who can buy a pedestrian ticket for the lift.

And after a long lunch it's not uncommon for diners here to move straight to apres ski at La Folie Douce which is part of the same building!

Restaurants in Val d'Isère

There is an eclectic mix of over 70 restaurants in town which cater to a wide variety of tastes and budgets. There is a scattering of budget friendly eateries throughout the resort which, on the whole, cater for a more casual dining experience, serving a range of burgers and pizzas alongside traditional Savoyard specialities.

The Lodge is a great example which serves up delicious meals for extremely reasonable prices, it is bang in the centre of town and very easy to find right on the Rue du parc des Sports.

At the not-to-be-missed-French-snacks end of the market there are several creperies of which Crêpe Val's is one of the best.

At the Hotel Kandahar, La Taverne d’Alscace serves up a traditional French menu and does so extremely well, leave some room though because we just can’t pass up on the exquisite desserts or the alpine cheese board which rounds off a meal here perfectly.

Le 1789 is another firm favourite and is one of the friendliest eateries in town, run by local character Minet and serving traditional fare, their ‘cote du boeuf’ is not to be missed!

As with all things Val d’Isère, the luxury, and in this case gourmet end of the market is better served than most with all of the four star hotels well provided with excellent establishments.

The Hotel Brussels for example has high calibre dining on the chalet side around the chimney with classy fresh fish cuisine as well as Savoyard specialties of course, served up in surrounding with the interior decor is both stylish and Savoyard.

La Tovière is another which serves up a treat, open to the public also, the chefs reputation for attention to detail has earned this much acclaim as a place to eat in Val d’Isère.

If you’re in search of the epitome of dining in Val d’Isère, La Grande Ourse at Hotel Les Airelles, next to the Hotel Brussels and L’Aigle des Neiges, has been a feature of the resort since the very beginning in the 1930s. For an unforgettable gourmet experience, dine in the main restaurant, for an atmospheric Savoyard experience, head upstairs to the Loft.

The supermarkets offer free delivery through their website (in French). For fresh local cheeses and other dairy products the local branch of the Coopérative Laitière de Haute Tarentaise is a good choice.
