Tignes is a resort which is well set up for families. It has an abundance of great ski schools, a number of which are tailored to offer English speaking lessons, there is also a great range of convenient accommodation close to the slopes.
Families are on the whole well looked after in Tignes which for starters has the advantage of being purpose built at altitude. For families this means apartments designed for them with the hassle of getting from apartment on to the snow minimized as much as possible, as the need to walk a long way or catch a ski bus for example, is normally not an issue here. The apartments in Tignes are also set up to enable you to either cook and eat in your apartment or to easily stroll into the village and enjoy one of the many restaurants Tignes has to offer. Many of the apartments also have great facilities for kids such as swimming pool and games areas.
Children can get on the snow in a supervised class from age three or even two and a half either through one of the ski schools programmes or with Les Marmottons, which runs special children’s ski nurseries complete with mini snow park for kids aged from age two-and-a-half to eight years old at Le Lac and Val Claret (+33 (0)4 79 06 37 12; marmottons-tignes.com).
The ski schools have their own programs, the largest is Ecole de Ski Francais which also has several ‘piou piou’ snow gardens for children aged three and older, and then the French National standard courses for older children depending on their age and stage. Other ski schools offer kids ski school too, of which our friends at New Generation lead the pack with their excellent choice of kids group and private lessons taught in English. Check out our Ski School Guide for more information and booking details.
If you're looking for Childcare then there's Jelly & Ice Cream +33 6 79 769 5 95 run by Brit Tina Eliades. They specialise in private nannies and baby sitting.
Tignes also scores for dining out with low priced family-friendly creperies and pizzeria (including a take out/delivery option: +33(0)4 79 06 30 97) check out our Tignes Restaurant and Dining Guide for more options.
Once the lifts close, there is still a big range of activities available to keep little ones entertained. One of the highlights is the excellent new Lagon centre (Place du Lac; +33 (0)4 79 40 29 95) which has a 25-metre swimming pool, a play pool and a three lane water slide! For a full listing of what's on offer, check out our Activities in Tignes guide.
