Travel Directions to Serre Chevalier, France

The nearest and most convenient airport for Serre Chevalier is Grenoble, 2 hours away with daily public bus transfers. If you’re traveling from Turin or another French airport, the journey to Serre-Chevalier will require slightly more planning though. Marseille is also a major access airport for Serre-Chevalier with trains that run fairly regularly from the city up to Briançon, from where you can catch a bus or get a taxi straight to your accommodation.

Grenoble Airport - 110km / approx 1 hour 50 mins

Your best bet is probably booking a private transfer with Ski Lifts or renting a car and driving up.

You can take a bus from the airport to Grenoble Gare Routière. From here public transport links are available by bus to Serre-Chevalier or trains to Briançon and buses to resort. More bus links to Briançon from Grenoble Gare Routière are available with the Alti Bus

Turin Airport - 130 km / approx 2 hours

The easiest option would be to book a private transfer with Ski Lifts or rent a car and drive.

Public transport from Turin is possible, but requires a number of changes.

Chambery Airport - 157 km / approx 2 hours

Public transport is not really an option from Chambery. You can however book a private transfer with Alp Line (www.alp-line.com) or rent a car and drive up.

Marseille Airport 240km / approx 2 hours 50 mins

There are trains that run from Marseille to Briançon, the most easterly town in the ski area. 

There is also the option renting a car and driving.

Lyon Airport - 200 km / approx 2 hours 40 mins

There is little in the form of public transport options from Lyon, so a private transfer with Ski Lifts as above or car rental are an option.

Geneva Airport - 250km / approx 3 hours

By Train

Getting to Serre-Chevalier by train is certainly possible within a day although it’s not the easiest of journeys. The best option is the Eurostar to Paris where you change station from Gare du Nord to Gare de Lyon. From here you can take the TGV to Valence Ville and then connect on to the regional service to Briancon, the most easterly town in the ski area.

If you’ve booked your flights into Marseille there are trains that run fairly regularly from the city up to Briançon. 

Self-Drive

With its position in the Southern Alps, the drive to Serre Chevalier from Calais takes between 9 and 12 hours, depending on the traffic, and weather.
For precise directions try using www.viamichelin.com. Whilst en route though look out junction 8 of the A480 from Grenoble which is poorly signposted, referring to the nearby resorts as “Stations de l’Oisans-Vizille”. You should try to stay alert and avoid getting sucked into Grenoble city centre, as it is particularly difficult finding a way out!

Make sure you bring snow chains as getting over the Col du Lautaret pass can be dreadful without any grip, and check the weather forecast before you set off. Parking is not a problem in resort with a free parking in town. Because of the layout of the resort, spread into a string of 13 villages, you are likely to use your car regularly throughout the week if you’re not right next to a lift.
