Morzine is extremely proud of its Famille Plus status, which it was awarded for excellence in catering to families with kids. Family friendly accommodation, such as the Famille Plus awarded Hotel Le Petit Dru, discounts on lift passes, and great facilities and activities for children, all make the resort a fantastic choice for families.
The resort has plenty of gentle slopes that are perfect for teaching kids or beginners to ski, as well as excellent ski school and childcare facilities. The Piou Piou Club is run by the ESF and offers childcare and ski school for kids aged from 3 to 14 years. Younger kids will love playing around and finding their feet in the club’s snow garden and kids ski area, while older kids can hone their skills with the school’s expert instructors. Lunch and snacks can be provided and there are also indoor facilities for when the weather closes in. The Piou Piou Club is located near the base of the Pleney lift, so to make life easy for yourself opt to stay in one of the hotels in that area, such as Hotel Les Airelles.
For kids that are too young to be let loose on the slopes, there’s a range of crèche, nursery and nanny services. The French-run L’Outa Nursery in the centre of Morzine takes children aged from 3 months to 5 years. It’s open 6 days a week (Sunday to Friday) from 9am to 5.30pm, and has both indoor and outdoor play areas to keep your little ones entertained.
Morzine Kids is an independent childcare service run by a British qualified pediatric nurse, who will look after your kids in the familiar surroundings of your own accommodation.
There are also a number of British run ski schools that offer lessons for both children and adults, including BASS, Mint Snowboard School and our friends at New Generation who will be opening their brand new Morzine operations for the 2014/15 season.
Once ski school has finished for the day, there are loads of activities to keep kids, and indeed adults, entertained.
There’s an outdoor ice skating rink centrally located in the square next to the tourist office, and if the weather’s not so good there’s also an indoor ice skating rink in Parc des Dérêches.
Many of Morzine’s hotels, such as Hotel Les Airelles, Hotel Le Petit Dru and Chalet Philibert have their own swimming pools, but kids will also love a trip to Morzine’s massive new indoor swimming complex. Located next to the Super Morzine gondola, this fantastic amenity has separate beginners’ and kids’ pools in addition to the main 25 x 15 metre pool.
Kids love sledging and there’s a whole slope dedicated to it at the bottom of the Crusaz chairlift, where kids from the age of 6 can sledge safely during the day. Older kids can also enjoy guided night sledging from the top of the Pleney lift after the slopes are closed to skiers. Children aged 8-11 must be accompanied by an adult.
Younger kids will adore the vintage merry-go-round located in the square next to the tourist office, which runs from 10am to 8pm daily. It costs €2 a go and kids under the age of 2 must be accompanied by an adult.
