Overview of Avoriaz Ski Resort, France

Avoriaz sits perched at a snow sure altitude of 1800m on a cliff top plateau looking down the valley to the traditional town of Morzine. Although it first opened more than 40 years ago, Avoriaz still looks stylish and contemporary with its geometric buildings clad in red cedar wood, easily distinguishing it from any other ski resort in the world.

Avoriaz is located less than 90 minutes from Geneva airport and after the initial 'wow' as you approach, you’ll find the resort bears many similarities to other large French purpose-built ski resorts, although it also offers several things the rest don’t.

First, it's part of one of the world’s largest ski regions, the Portes du Soleil, which encompasses 650km (407 miles) of pistes. The other attraction is that you can easily ski or board over to Switzerland from Avoriaz, as several ski areas on the Portes du Soleil pass are over the border.

Avoriaz has been built with convenience in mind with the resort centre being easily accessible on foot from all of the accommodation we offer. The children's ski school 'Village des Enfants' is at the centre of the resort and helps make Avoriaz a firm favourite for any family ski holiday.

The addition of the Aquariaz water park has also added to the appeal of Avoriaz to families and it's the perfect place for kids (and big kids) on days when visibility is poor or you'd like an afternoon off skiing.

There's a wealth of great shops, bars and restaurants located throughout Avoriaz and a huge number of good mountain restaurants dotted around the ski area with those in the village of Lindarets being particularly popular.

Why Choose Avoriaz for Your Ski Holiday?

There's a huge choice of ski-in/ski-out Avoriaz accommodation with self-catering apartments in every size, shape and price bracket with everything from the great value but basic Residence les Portes du Soleil to the luxury Residence L'Amara which we highly recommend as the best place to stay in Avoriaz. We have Avoriaz apartments to suit every ski holiday requirement and budget.

Avoriaz takes its pedestrianisation a little more seriously that most ski resorts. Cars and ski transfers must stop at the entrance to the resort, and from there guests (except those in L'Amara which has its own underground car park and transfer drop off point) make their way over snow to their accommodation by horse and sleigh or piste bashers converted into guest transport. As the resort sits high at 1800m, any Avoriaz snow report will confirm you’ll be walking over snow all season long.
