Vaujany Resort Attractions

Vaujany successfully mixes the centuries old tradition of the village, with a very 21st century ski area above and you have the opportunity to either immerse yourself in the heritage of the village by visiting the small museums and taking part in local cultural events or to look at the hi-tec facilities on the mountain, or indeed do both. In the latter category, the local lift company provides a rare opportunity to tour the chair lift machinery and snow-making factory and get a first hand look at the facilities.

Skiers and boarders can visit one of the two automatic snow production units on the mountain. The Plat des Marmottes unit is located 2,300m up the mountain and houses a 4,000 KW York snowmaking system with two machine rooms, and is one of the most powerful in Europe. Visits are possible every Thursday afternoon. Or you can get close to the machinery of Marmottes I + II + III lifts with guided explanations on how these machines work, every Wednesday afternoon. In both cases you need to reserve in advance and there’s a three Euro charge to take part (for lift pass holders). The visits are organised by SATA - Télécabine des Grandes Rousses (+33 (0)4 76 80 34 73; satahuez.fr).

Shopping

Shopping in Vaujany is very limited with only about 10 shops, most of them sports or food retailers, located in the small village shopping mall or the village centre.
Le Coutaroux (+33 (0)4 76 807 322) in the shopping mall is a kind of general store that operates as a newsagents and souvenir shop.

The nearest chemist (+33 (0)4 76 80 78 64) is at Allemont, five kilometres away. There is of course much more retailing up at Alpe d’Huez and you can visit shops there during your day on the slopes.
