Getting to Vallorcine by Plane, Train or Car

Vallorcine is located at the end of the Chamonix Valley and can be very easily reached by car or by plane. Geneva airport is only 88km away making it one of the most accessible resorts in the French Alps. You can travel by train but be prepared to change.

Given its proximity to Geneva, Vallorcine is a great choice for a weekend holiday or a shorter ski break. It is advisable to drive there as having a car will prove an advantage if you want to explore the huge Chamonix Valley. 

By Plane

Geneva Airport - 88km / approx 1 hour

For private transfer Ski Lifts are a good, or there is the hire car option as well.

By far the easiest airport to fly to for Vallorcine. Cham Express offer cheap and regular transfers to Chamonix, as do Geneva Airport Transfers. Altibus also serve the route well with a regular coach service. 

Chambéry Airport - 145km / approx 1.5 hours

It is not easy to get from Chambery to Vallorcine on public transport but you can take a private transfer with Ski Lifts or you can easily drive in a hire car. 

Lyon Airport - 220 km / approx 2 hours

From Lyon you can either hire a car and drive or you can book a private transfer with Ski Lifts (as above)

Turin -175 km / approx 2 hours

From Turin you can either dig deep for a taxi or hire a car. The drive is only 2 hours so it isn't too long.

Car Rental

If you require a hire car for your ski holiday, there are a number of fantastic car rental companies based in Europe.

By Train

The journey to Vallorcine by train is difficult but it is possible. You need to catch the Eurostar from St Pancras to Paris Gare du Nord. You will need to cross the city to the Gare du Lyon to catch the TGV to Annecy. 

From Annecy you change to catch the train to St Gervais Les Bains and from here you change again to the regional Chamonix Valley Train.  On this train you will pass Les Houches and entre Chamonix from where you will need to change again to catch the local train to Vallorcine. If you like trains then this will be perfect for you and you can buy tickets and get times at rail-europe.com.

Another option is to catch the TGV from Paris Gare de Lyon to Cluses from where you can catch a taxi, it is about 40km. 

 

Self-Drive

If you like the luxury of having your car with you, then driving to Vallorcine is a wise move. It’s very easy to get to the Chamonix Valley from Britain and you will be able to explore more of the area too.

You can easily travel down to neighbouring resorts such as Argentiere and Chamonix to try a little more advanced skiing. Places a little bit further away but still within a reachable distance are Flaine and the Swiss resort of Verbier.
