Overview of Samoëns Ski Resort

On a Samoëns ski holiday you’ll be delighted to find that this is an authentic village in the Haute-Savoie region of France, close to Mont Blanc with a lovely medieval village centre. The skiing at Samoëns is part of the huge Grand Massif ski area that surrounds the resort of Flaine, in a snowy bowl above, but also links in traditional villages, including Les Carroz, Samoëns, Morillon and Sixt in the valley below. However, you need to take one of two gondolas up to the slopes and you need to take a bus to the base of the gondolas from most accommodation, and there’s no ski run back down.

One big advantage to Samoëns is that it’s exceptionally easy to get to. For those driving down from the Channel, it’s just 10 minutes from the nearest motorway, the A40, those flying in to Geneva will find it just under an hour away (on a good day!). A third option is to come here by Eurostar from St Pancras to the nearby Cluses high-speed train station.

In recent years the resort has carried out quite a lot of work re-aligning pistes and upgrading lifts to make the runs safer and more convenient, and to ensure that queues don’t build to get up the mountain.
