Getting to La Clusaz by Plane, Train or Car

La Clusaz is an authentic mountain village known for its distinctive French rustic charm and has a short transfer time of under an hour from Geneva. Its accessibility by car and rail makes it a favourite for weekends and short breaks. With the nearest railway station only 25 km away, and a regular schedule of buses from Geneva and Lyon arranging your travel to La Clusaz shouldn’t be complicated. It’s also worth mentioning that this is a great resort to drive to, with so many other great resorts and ski areas in striking distance such as Megeve, Flaine and even the resorts of the Mont Blanc its definetely worth considering the drive.

By Plane

Chambery Airport - 80km / approx 1 hours

There’s not much in the way of public transport between Chambéry and La Clusaz, but the drive isn’t too long so you can hire a car or take a private transfer with Ski Lifts

Geneva Airport - 50 km / approx 50 mins

Ski Lifts offer both shared and private transfers to La Clusaz, or there is also the option of hiring a car.

Lyon Airport - 180 km / approx 2 hours

Altibus run a regular public bus service to resort from Lyon. Other than hiring a car and driving you can take a private transfer with Ski Lifts as above

Turin Airport - 230 km / approx 3 hours

Other than forking out a small fortune for a taxi, your only real option here is hire car, but at 2 hours it is an easily doable drive.

By Train

The journey to La Clusaz on the train is not the easiest, however if you are determined to take the train it is certainly possible. A few changes are required. The first leg of your journey begins in London, St Pancras, where you’ll catch a train down to Paris, Gare du Nord. In Paris you’ll need to change stations from Gare du Nord to Gare de Lyon, from which you can take a domestic TGV service directly to Annecy. Your final leg is to Bonneville where you can catch a bus or arrange a taxi directly into resort. You can get prices and tickets from www.raileurope.com.

Self-Drive

Driving to the Alps is certainly an option as long as you don’t mind spending a fair amount of time behind the wheel. The journey take between 7 and 10 hours from Calais, and La Clusaz is well located within striking distance of many fantastic resorts if you fancy going on a day trip out of La Clusaz to explore another area. Nearby resorts such as Flaine, Les Carroz, and the Mont Blanc Ski Area are all accessible within a day. We would recommend that you invest in a good pair of snow chains before you set off, the gendarmerie are known to stop cars without them if the conditions are particularly bad. Before setting off it may be worth thinking about avoiding Paris and taking the route via Reims instead. It’s motorway most all the way but for precise directions it’s best you check the route with www.viamichelin.com. On arrival in resort there is underground parking available at the Maeva underground car park, however this is availability permitting. There is also free outdoor parking available in the resort. You’re best to check the forecast to see if it’s going to snow whilst you’re there, if so it may be worth booking into an indoor car park.
