Brides-les-Bains’ mountain restaurants means Meribel’s mountain restaurants and there are more than a dozen of them in the Meribel Valley and more than three times that number in the Three Valleys as a whole. For full details see our reviews of Meribel, Les Menuires, Val Thorens, La Tania and Courchevel.
While most of the accommodation up in Meribel is chalets and apartments, Brides-les-Bains accommodation is predominantly simple hotels and quite a few of these will offer a half board package. Otherwise there are a dozen or so places to eat in town, most of them offering simple, family-friendly, French favourites.
Choices for this include most of the establishments listed in the après ski section as well as L'Arcadie (+33 (0)4 79 55 20 49) within the Immeuble La Tarentaise on rue Aristide Briand or L'Authentique (+33 (0)4 79 08 16 50) in the Résidence Cybèle on the same street and there’s La Grillande (+33 (0)4 79 55 20 90) in the Immeuble le Royal in the quartier du Vieux Brides.
There are more dining options in the casino (see Resort Attractions) and for pizza try L'Alizet (+33 (0)4 79 55 30 01) on Rue Emile Machet or a quick snack version from Pizza Mans (+33 (0)6 24 53 84 17) in the Galerie de l'Olympe which stays open to 11pm when most other establishments stop serving food at 9pm.
Brides Les Bains is the kind of traditional French town where you can wander to the local food shops each morning to pick up your provisions for breakfast and the rest of the day. Most shops open early and close after seven but take a two to three hour lunch break as is traditional. You might start off at the Boulangerie de La Source (+33 (0)4 79 55 22 89) on Rue Emile Machet which is open every day at 6.30am so you can make an early start! La Maison de Mariellet (+33 (0)4 79 55 24 90; http://www.lamaisondemarielle.com) on Rue Aristide Briand opens a little later at 7.15am but does some wonderful baking too, and you can order in advance by phone.
Other good food shops include Esprit Nature (+33 (0)9 71 26 18 42) on Rue Aristide Briand and Aux Caprices Savoyards (+33 (0)4 79 55 28 65) at Place du Centenaire, while L'Oasis (+33 (0)4 79 55 24 74), also on Rue Aristide Briand specialises in locally produced food products. There’s also a Spar supermarket (Avenue Comte du Grayfié de Bellecombe; +33 (0)4 79 55 21 97; http://www.spar.fr) for a wider choice of standard groceries.
