Avoriaz is principally a ski resort for families, but that doesn't mean there's a lack après ski and the resort has lots of great bars dotted around for the traditional post-ski refreshment.
The fact Avoriaz has great terrain parks like Le Stash and reputation for freestyle riding means it can attract a younger crowd who love a bit of revelry and with over 40 bars it isn't hard to find a good apres ski spot. But bear in mind that Avoriaz is a first and foremost a family resort so the après ski isn't as hedonistic as some other ski resorts in the Alps - you'll struggle to find anything open later than 2am apart from Le Yak, even if you've still got the energy to stay up later!
Since Avoriaz is all ski in/ski out accommodation, everyone skis straight into town after a day on the slopes to enjoy the après scene and all of the bars and restaurants on the hill close.
A fantastic adition for season 2018-19, La Folie Douce has made its way to the slopes of Avoriaz to take the resort's après scene to a whole new level. The new venue includes two restaurants, bar and shop making sure they have something for everyone no matter what their ages is. Located conveniently on the slopes at the upper end of the resort next to Le Yak, it's an ideal stop on the way back from a day's skiing.
The L'Amara area is one of the newer developments in Avoriaz and is quieter and reflects the ambience of the stylish four-star apartments of Residence L’Amara. There's a superb terrace where you can take in the spectacular scenery looking right down the valley to Morzine. The sunsets can be breathtaking.
L'Amara also has a bar in main reception building which is open from 5pm every day. There's a pool table and a separate kids play room with video games consoles
Le Yak is a bar/nightclub and is a good option if you want to stay out late - it's open until 5:30am most nights during the season. Find it on Place du Snow at the lower end of the main resort street - Place Centrale
Le Chapka is located in the Falaise area and has large windows looking out onto the snow covered pedestrian street. It's a stylish and contemporary bar that attracts a great crowd and has a good buzz. They feature live music some evenings and Le Chapka also serves food and light snacks.
The place is another great option for live music and there are also often local events such as the Jazz festival and Avoriaz Night Parties, so check with the tourist office when you arrive in resort to find out what is going on while you are in town. It's located as part of the Centre Commercial
As its name suggests, Le Shooters is famous for serving shots and they have over 50 to choose from. The last time we were there they had a happy hour in the early evening and were open until 2am, as you might expect it can get lively and loud!
Located on the main street in the centre of Avoriaz, Le Tavaillon styles itself as a bar/pub and has a superb outside terrace and seating area for some al fresco après ski. It's a mild pastiche of a British pub/bar but we think still much more French than they've aimed for (thankfully!)
From breakfast until 2am, Globe Trotter has you covered for all of your pre and après needs. Known for their good value cocktails and located right in the heart of Avoriaz, Globe Trotter is a favourite with many visitors.
